Originating in Andalusia, it has been known for centuries under the name of " Dog turk" and " Turco Andaluz" , the first indications dating back to 730. The Spanish water dog is not a new race nor a particularly rare race. It has been present in the south of the Iberian peninsula where it was used as a sheepdog and subsequently, on the coasts of the South and North, as a sailors companion. Today it is found throughhout Europe and in the United States.
Males are 44-50 cm. 18-22 kg
Females are 40-46 cm. 14-18 kg
